BayFM welcomes all community organisations and members to become involved in their local community radio station.
If you have ever dreamed of becoming an announcer on BayFM, or you’d like to learn more about community media in general BayFM provides many training opportunities for community members with a chance to learn about broadcasting new content and support the work of BayFM. When joining a volunteer organisation like BayFM you will quickly find yourself amongst a diverse cross section of the community, making new friends and meeting interesting people plus in time learn valuable skills or gain work experience.
BayFM is seeking individuals and organisations from varied and under-represented areas of the community who wish to become involved at the station in a number of roles including but not limited to:
If you or your organisation wishes to become involved on a volunteer basis in any of these areas please forward your ideas by email to the Community Access Co-ordinator along with a short description of what your organisation does and what you envision your involvement within Community Radio to be.
Once your ideas are received a subcommittee of the BayFM Management Committee will assess your application and contact you to discuss the possibility of training and mentoring to achieve an agreed outcome.
BayFM offers a variety of in-house training which is open to everyone in the community; however access for popular training programs is prioritised toward current financial subscribers and station volunteers. Our Grid (or Program Guide) changes every 6 months. These are are known as our Summer and Winter seasons. Applications are accepted two months leading up to the start of a new season. Each new season commences on May 1 and November 1.
All announcers/volunteers must be current members of the station (and continue to be so while volunteering at BayFM) It is optional to support the station as a subscriber.
It is a requirement that all presenters/announcers maintain a volunteering commitment outside of hosting an on air program. This may include attendance and assistance with fundraisers, events, outside broadcasts, and work around the station.
Presenter Training is available for all potential BayFM announcers. BayFM offers in-house hands on training as well as Community College Courses in Broadcasting. BayFM also has projects designed for youth and school classes.
